Dealing with Potential Digital Copywriting Clients
My daily experiences as a digital copywriter can be like a roller coaster. I really have no idea exactly what to expect on a day-to-day basis. It can be exciting but also stressful. I feel I have a good grasp of managing my business and preventing things from spiraling out of control. However, there is always an element of surprise and a need to keep fine-tuning my abilities to deal with unexpected challenges.
My day-to-day responsibilities encompass communication with potential clients in a variety of forms. This includes emails, messages through social media, and phone/video calls. This alone can account for a great percentage of the digital copywriting lifestyle. This is an industry that entails sales and interpersonal skills. The actual digital copywriting is one component but you need to get past any inhibitions and be willing to communicate with potential clients. Without a client base, there is no business. It is also important not to get too comfortable. I am always open to new business because I factor in the possibility that a current copywriting client may cut back on their marketing budget, their desire to engage in content marketing, etc. Handling Digital Copywriting Negotiation and Roadblocks
In order to be successful in building a digital copywriting business, you have to develop a thick skin. I view it as a numbers game to a certain extent. There is little time to allow nerves or shyness to get in your way. The sooner you talk to the next potential client, the sooner you have additional digital copywriting work coming your way.
I try not to ruminate on disappointments or potentials I feel have wasted my time. If the time and effort I have put into communicating with them do not result in a partnership, I move on as quickly as possible. There is way too much opportunity out there to let one disappointment stand in your way or shake your confidence. Just brush it off and get started scheduling the next phone or video call, etc.
In dealing with adding to my digital copywriting client base, I am often placed in unanticipated and awkward situations. It is not always possible to know for sure who you will be asked to get on a phone or video call with. It may be someone within a company you have not had prior communication with, or you may need to speak with several people before a partnership is agreed upon.
I find it most convenient to speak to a decision-maker from the onset (Founder, CEO, other C-level members of the organization) because it leads to a faster decision-making process. Be ready to sell yourself, your digital copywriting experience and capabilities, answer unexpected questions, and relay how you can help their business. Also be prepared to negotiate rates and express why the rates you are proposing are justified, based on your expertise and background. Managing My Current Digital Copywriting Workload
Dealing with potential digital copywriting clients involves a 50/50 effort for me. It is a relief to have potential clients reaching out to me, it lessens my effort, but I also enjoy proactively going after opportunities of interest. However, when I am swamped with current copywriting, editing projects, etc., I am pressed for time in that regard.
In those circumstances, I am focused on meeting deadlines, communicating with current clients, gaining feedback, clarification of guidelines, invoicing, following up on payments, developing contracts, and the many other tasks associated with the actual digital copywriting work. There are also the offshoots of copywriting, such as content creation for my own site, and marketing to maintain an online presence and generate business e.g. SEO, social media marketing. In addition to keeping my financial business matters in order (bookkeeping/accounting, taxes, etc.). I also think it is important to build a portfolio of investments with a portion of my digital copywriting earnings, considering I am a self-employed person and responsible for my own retirement account.
The day-to-day life of a digital copywriter is a multifaceted experience. I enjoy the excitement and unpredictability to a certain reasonable extent. It adds to a feeling of freedom and accomplishment, as I become stronger and more capable of handling unforeseen challenges. Each day is different from the one before, and I appreciate the opportunity to meet new and interesting clients.

The Importance of Strategizing Toward a Greater Marketing Funnel
When considering your strategy online, take into account the importance of intertwining your efforts into a greater marketing funnel. Each element in your digital marketing repertoire of techniques would be best suited if they worked interconnectedly. They all play an important role, such as organic search traffic, social media ads, etc.
However, planning ahead so they play off each other, so to speak, will enhance the effectiveness of each strategy. Aim for a larger marketing funnel umbrella and tie the smaller elements into achieving that ultimate goal. Keep your brainstorming a few steps ahead while still maintaining focus on the task at hand. This can take a while to get used to juggling, but it will be worth sharpening this skill. An Interactive Marketing Funnel in the Larger Scope
Think about your digital efforts as a part of an all-encompassing and highly interactive marketing funnel. Work your way down from that larger concept and plan each detailed content or marketing strategy, always bearing this in mind. For example, when planning your blog content, create an overall strategy and outline for a specific blog post. However, ensure the key elements within that content correlate with your greater marketing funnel.
If your marketing funnel integrates SEO as a means of driving traffic, think about the user experience when they are led to your site via an organic Google search and land on one of your optimized blog posts. Consider the other related components that maximize the effectiveness of that one search click, such as an opt-in form on your site that captures their email and retains them as a subscriber you can further communicate with.
Reflect on how this plays into your email marketing strategies and gaining them as a customer of perhaps your own products on your site or affiliate products. Also, evaluate the amplification of your marketing funnel by strategically placed affiliate links on your site or in your content that they will come across while reading your blog post.
Tie Digital Content into an Overall Marketing Funnel Plan
Link your large-scale marketing funnel into other areas beyond your site that ultimately lead back to your site. When you are creating social media copy and ads, attain the most efficiency out of those methods too, by considering the user experience there as well and how they travel to your site during the whole process. Remember the additional benefits of available tracking features and analytics tools for gathering audience data and honing down your target audience. Familiarize yourself with your site’s audience, as well as elsewhere so you can continue maximizing your funnel.
Your efforts on social media all tie back to your site through a variety of means e.g. posts to increase your online presence and help with branding, paid ads, influencer marketing campaigns, etc. As do paid search engine ads in conjunction to free organic search traffic.
Backlinks also contribute highly to your overall marketing funnel, whether on social media or other sites. Perhaps through published work, such as articles and author bylines, or other types of features and mentions of your site or brand. These backlinks directly drive traffic to your site but also complement your SEO endeavors in general, by strengthening the rankings of your own site's content already in the search engines.
Creating an orderly, well-functioning marketing funnel that is optimized to its greatest efficiency will free you from more laborious processes. Once set up, it can work for itself as a somewhat automated system, allowing you more freedom from hands-on tasks.
Of course, there is always work involved with initial setup. But rather than trying to acquire sales, traffic, and eyes on your business by going after individualized attention, it makes more sense to do so through a smooth-running marketing funnel. Each component perpetuates the other elements in the system.
Having been a digital marketer since creating my site in 2012, I have a great deal of experience testing and acclimating myself to utilizing different funnels and tools. It can be enjoyable to brainstorm creatively and keep fine-tuning means of driving traffic and growing my business. If you would like my input on how you can develop a more productive marketing funnel, I am available to contribute my content and marketing strategy guidance.

As creatives (writers, influencers, etc.), we sometimes encounter creative blocks. In industries that rely on creative output, it can be difficult for the client requesting the services to understand the burnout often associated with creating content. It is important to take certain measures to rejuvenate, clear your mind, and inspire new ideas, in order to remain productive and in alignment with your goals.
It is best to take a step back if needed to attend to your mental, emotional, and spiritual needs, rather than feeling pressured to “crank out” content or ideas to suit a client’s demands, which will only result in a subpar effort on your end. I am not suggesting you neglect meeting deadlines, however, with proper planning, you should be able to produce timely work while allowing for dealing with any unforeseen creative blocks. Ease Your Mind and Emotions to Release Creative Blocks
Avoid Unreasonable Deadlines
A great first step in dealing with creative blocks is to take the pressure off by avoiding them, to begin with. It is not necessarily possible to completely avoid creative blocks since they can be unpredictable. But do what you can to avoid placing yourself in stressful situations that may interfere with a successful creative process, such as dealing with clients that impose unreasonably tight deadlines.
Aim to partner with a certain echelon of client that respects you as a professional in your field, understands you have other clients you are producing content for, and has consideration for you as a human being. Creative Blocks are Par for the Course
Accept the Inevitable
Accepting that creative blocks are a natural part of the creative process, will also relieve a lot of undue pressure on yourself. Developing unique and effective content, in the form of writing, images, music, etc. is considered a gift by many so you should not feel obligated to produce these types of materials on demand. They flow from a place of inspiration and spontaneity.
Enjoy Other Creative Works to Prompt Ingenuity
Relax Your Mind, Emotions, and Body
A helpful way to release your own creative blocks is to enjoy the creativity of other artists. They may be in a completely different field than yourself, but often, appreciating the work of others can stimulate innovative ideas. You may consider listening to music, perhaps the type that also helps with soothing your mind and emotions, while encouraging relaxation, such as binaural beats or particular hertz frequencies.
You may want to escape for a bit into the writings or artwork of other talented creatives as a way to unwind and forget your creative blocks for a while. Other forms of healthy escapism, like exercise or participating in beneficial coping mechanisms of your choice are also a great place to turn. Just Get Started
Sometimes the best way to break past a creative block is to just get started creating content. Even just putting together an outline or rough draft, in the case of writing, can be incredibly helpful. This can often provoke ideas as you go through the process.
Taking any kind of action will help you feel less overwhelmed by the overall task. It will give you a greater sense of control and staying on track with accomplishing your goals. You will feel less helpless and more calm, knowing you at least handled what you could. When creative blocks cross your path, just remember they are par for the course, take a breather, and engage in some positive means of coping. Avoid too much procrastination and keep focused on regaining that fire of motivation being lit under you again. Keep in mind what initially moved you to enter your creative field and the passions that drove you. They are highly likely to return. Check out some of my work on my Portfolio Page. Realistic Brand Voice Strategizing with Your Digital Copywriter
As a digital copywriter, I have found that businesses often have unrealistic expectations for a writer to possess an all-encompassing understanding of their brand voice from the start. Similar to developing any other relationship, obtaining a grasp of what is ideally reflective of a company’s values and mission takes time. Clear communication is necessary for a full understanding and inspiration for creation and execution of the most effective brand voice strategy.
The ability to provide a distinct brand voice guideline or informative details, whether explicitly written or verbally conveyed, is the first step toward successful strategizing with your copywriter. In addition, placing the most adept company contact person to work with your digital copywriter will enhance your ability to gain insight into content marketing inefficiencies and potential improvements. Mutual respect for the valuable input of both parties as knowledgeable professionals and open-minded communication are essential for positive change to occur. Key Components When Assessing Your Digital Content and Brand Voice
Once a harmonious foundation has been set between brand and copywriter, a productive assessment of the content strategy can begin. A major factor often overlooked within the overall digital marketing plan is targeting the ideal audience through the development of a highly tuned brand voice. Before launching a content marketing campaign, it is crucial to determine who you are attempting to acquire and convert as customers. This can be obtained by assessing your desired goals in conjunction with analyzing demographic data from your current customer base.
After gathering helpful statistics to guide your digital strategy, you can tap into this insight to create a brand voice that speaks directly to your target audience. This will promote the most sensible expenditure of your marketing budget and increased ROI. Working with a writer who understands the additional sales, conversion, and psychological aspects associated with digital content will put you at an advantage. Having been a digital marketer since creating my site in 2012 and possessing a psychology degree, I know developing successful online copy can be a challenging and multifaceted process. It is important to be open to the input of others who have already ventured down that path and can help you streamline your content strategy. Brand voice development is best viewed as a continual process, as agendas change as well as customer profiles. Continual Evaluation of Brand Voice and Content Marketing Effectiveness
Establishing a long-term relationship with your digital copywriter is advantageous strategically since it takes time to fully grasp your specific needs and align with your trajectory toward your marketing goals. Continually evaluating your concrete data and considering innovative suggestions through brainstorming are both beneficial in addition to bearing in mind that brand voice is not stagnant.
It is often difficult to predict who will be attracted to your products or services and detect which changes you have made in other areas of your business that may have precipitated this. Customer demographics evolve as a business evolves. A wise approach to brand voice would be to go with the flow. I am available to help you by contributing the expertise I have gathered throughout the years and my openness to working together to conceptualize your digital content strategy. We can analyze your current insights, consider new perspectives, and progress toward streamlining your brand voice. Fuse Persuasive Copy and Rationale for a Competitive AdvantageRealizing the difference between presenting rational benefits to customers and utilizing persuasive copy to convert, will help you establish an advantage over your competitors. It is important to lay out the features/benefits of your products and services in order to promote an informed decision. However, the language you incorporate to persuade that decision is another crucial element. Integrating the appropriate balance of persuasive copy, executed professionally by the right copywriter, will elevate your marketing strategies to a more competitive level. Accomplishing this task seamlessly requires a comprehension of sales psychology and a relatable writing style that inspires purchase desire. Cognizance of persuasive copy as one technique within an overall marketing strategy structure is key, as well as proper timing for its use. Elicit Emotion and Intensify Purchase Desire Using Persuasive CopyIncreased conversion rates entail a rigorous provision of rational information, such as how a product or service works, how it can be obtained, how it can benefit the user. In addition, you must elicit an emotional reaction based on pain points, needs, or desires to ensure a higher propensity toward purchase. To greater solidify a commitment to purchase, your customer must associate an internal provocation of emotion with the item you are attempting to sell. An in-depth understanding of your target customer’s psyche is imperative, as well as a genuine interest in acquiring this knowledge. How you gather this data is your preference, according to which tools you find most compatible with your business and methods effective for interpretation of these analytics. However, realizing how this interplays with your marketing goals in their entirety and accomplishing proper implementation of persuasive copy will give you an edge. Identify Areas to Integrate Persuasive Copy and Maximize ConversionConduct a thorough audit with the help of an expert if needed to identify areas in your marketing content that are either lacking persuasive copy altogether or could be augmented with this technique. An experienced copywriter with marketing skills can provide valuable input for making these improvements, based on prior results achieved for clients in the area of customer conversion. It is well worth investing in these skills for increasing revenue since the power of words translates monetarily as a generous ROI.
Having been a digital marketer since creating my site in 2012, and having adapted to the many changes in the online space, I can contribute my expertise to your marketing objectives. I have a unique perspective since I am not only a writer but also a marketer. I can provide your business with persuasive copy that converts customers using my background in psychology as well. Finding a partner for your business that makes sense in terms of their skillset being a close fit for your needs can be a challenge. I offer a substantially well-rounded selection of competencies, life experiences, and services to accommodate your requirements. I have an understanding of the subtle differences in language that inspire a potential customer to take action to purchase. I also possess a grasp of how these idiosyncrasies in writing play into the many diverse components associated with a digital marketing strategy. Reach out to me so we can discuss how I can be of best service for helping you facilitate your business goals. I am open to contributing my thoughts on potential content and marketing strategy refinements as well. Please visit My Services (Contact) page to get in touch and review samples of my work on My Portfolio page. Valuing Professionalism When Providing My Copywriting Services I have been providing copywriting services for a while now, and although I am not completely new to the industry, I find there is still much to be discovered, as it is a continual learning process. There is no better way to hone your skills as a copywriter than to dive right in and start dealing with clients. In the beginning, and even now, I am often shocked at some of the cutthroat and unscrupulous ways in which some clients conduct themselves. I find that over time, I have developed a numbness in order to effectively continue running my copywriting services business without allowing such ridiculous clients to phase me. I continue to develop a thick skin and in a sense, expect the worst so when a job with a client goes smoothly, I am pleasantly surprised. I think to survive in this industry, it is important not to get too comfortable. I feel it is advisable to keep a steady demeanor without getting too excited over copywriting successes. That way you avoid a drastic fluctuation in emotions when clients behave unprofessionally. Eliminating Clients Who are Not Serious about Professional Copywriting Services There is so much tire kicking and cheapskatedness in copywriting; it is unbelievable. To run a profitable copywriting services business, you need to hold firm to your rates. I find it laughable that potential clients think I am unintelligent enough to fall for their bait and switch tactics, during which they seemingly propose paid work which later entails the stipulation of an unpaid test. Do they work for free? Of course not, so why would they expect me to? During that same time, I could be doing copywriting work for a client that respects me enough to pay me. Conducting appropriate research to inform myself of a business's products and services, current developments in their sector, gathering relevant sources, and writing engaging content takes time and effort. This should be taken into account when attempting to contract professional copywriting services. Learning the difference between high-quality writing and penny-a-word rubbish you can find anywhere is key. Top tier copywriters charge higher rates because we provide more value. You can choose to pay that or suffer SEO-wise with spammy, low-grade content that does not adequately rank in the search engines, drive traffic, or convert potential customers into sales. Continual Growth to Strengthen My Copywriting Services Business I find it worthwhile to draw lessons from every copywriting experience. The unprofessional clients continue to teach me how to identify and weed out situations that are a waste of my time. Providing copywriting services to high-level clients of a certain mentality motivates me to sharpen my skills and advance to higher goals. Seeing the potential for progress and greater opportunities through these interactions creates hope and fuels my desire to uncover more beneficial relationships.
I approach this copywriting experience on a day-by-day basis. Operating a copywriting services business lends limited predictability. It is not possible to foresee how many projects will come your way, when you will see these opportunities, or if a hopeful endeavor will just turn out to be some swindler playing games. Regardless, the upside and financial potential make it deserving of my effort. So I will persist in expanding my copywriting services to benefit additional clients in diverse sectors and growing through research in these new areas.
